Koh Samet is less than 7 kms off the coast of Rayong in the eastern Gulf of Thailand, 179km by car from Bangkok and a short trip from Pattaya, popular as a tourist destination and also a weekend getaway from Bangkok and Pattaya. Koh Samet has white sandy beaches similar to the Islands in the South of Thailand but a little less developed, ideal if you want some piece and quiet and a nice place to kick back and relax. Koh Samet has been declared a National Park in Thailand and therefore has an entry fee. Thai citizens pay 40 baht, foreigners (farangs) pay 400 baht. If your ferry arrives at the main pier and you take a songthaew (truck like taxi) to the beaches, there will be a stop at the main ticket checkpoint. Koh Samet Ferry - The transit point for every visitor to Koh Samet is Ban Phe in Rayong, ferries from Ban Phe to Koh Samet take around 30 to 45 minutes. Koh Samet Beaches - The beaches on the southeast side of Koh Samet are less crowded. These are a good option if you prefer to have a very relaxed and calm holiday.
